Notes From The Principal

Dear Parents and Website Visitors:

Welcome to the Benson Village School website!

Our students have been hard at work with district assessments as of late.  I am very proud to report they are making huge progress!  The feedback from the teams administering these assessments has been overwhelmingly positive!  Our students have a thirst for learning, and kudos to them for working so hard.

Thanks to the greater Benson community for another year of support for our 8th grade trip to Washington, D.C.  That support, coupled with the dedication of our 8th-grade parents, makes this trip happen for our students.  We cannot say THANK YOU enough!

Don’t forget to check out our calendar on this website.   We update this calendar constantly.  This calendar has the most up-to-date information on all activities at Benson Village School.

Student has poem published in Rutland Herald

One of BVS’ own students has just become a published author for a poem she wrote and submitted to the Young Writer’s Project. Her poem was published in the Rutland Herald. Printed here is the poem in its entirety.

While rain pours down

    Deer run around

         Bears hunt for food

In the sound of a rushing stream

And fish swim like never before.

                                          The  insects crawl

                                                    The red birds tweet

                                                                The yellow sun comes out

                                                                          While rainbows shine

                                                                                  and flowers bloom.

Students produce P.S.A.’s (public service announcements)

A few enterprising students have volunteered their own time to create a series of short films that explain to younger students what the letters in P.A.W.S., our PBIS philosophy, stand for. Click on the following links to see what they have done so far.

Student Acknowledgment Assembly

Our second Student Acknowledgment Assembly. Thanks to all the parents and families who came to support their children. This month, we are focusing on our “W” in PAWS; Work Responsibly. Here’s to November! Three of our students created a video describing what Working Responsibly would look like for our youngest students. Great work!

Two Hour Delay Procedure

For the first time in years, Benson Village School will have a two-hour delay option in the event of dangerous winter weather or other emergencies.  The decision to delay the opening of a school is made as soon as possible by the Superintendent of Addison Rutland Supervisory Union.

Once a decision has been made, an announcement will be provided via a PowerSchool phone broadcast within the Addison Rutland Supervisory Union region by 6:30 am.  School closings and delayed openings are also posted on the BVS Facebook Page.

In the case of a delayed opening, the start of school will be two hours later than the usual time.

Two-hour delay:

  • School opens at 9:45 am.  A light breakfast will be available.  The school day will begin at 10:00 am.
  • If the delay happens on a Tuesday, Thursday or Friday, there will be no morning Preschool.  If the delay happens on a Monday, Wednesday or Friday, preschool sessions would begin at the regularly scheduled time of 11:30 am.
  • All buses will run two hours later than normal.  (For example:  If your bus time is 7:10 am, and it is a two-hour delay, your bus time would be 9:10 am.)
  • A delayed opening has no effect on dismissal time unless announced.

The purpose of Benson Village School is to provide a safe educational setting and quality educational services. Programs will be designed to support each student’s needs in order to assist them in reaching their full potential academically, socially, and emotionally. The teachers strive to build upon each student’s natural curiosity to become a self-motivated, life-long learner, who will be a contributing member of society.

Wellness Policy:  Benson Village School has a Wellness Policy that includes Physical Education, Physical Activity, and School Nutrition.  The full policy may be viewed on our web site by selecting policies from the school board drop down menu at the top of the page, or a hard copy can be obtained or viewed at the school.  We invite parents and community members to give input any time on this policy.  Contact the school for more details if you are interested.
